10pm: A typical evening, kids in bed, Nicky watching TV & me practising the guitar. Simple pleasures.

October 22nd

9pm. I ordered myself a new guitar today in Calgary, a beautiful custom made Fender Telecaster which will take about 6 months to be built & shipped up to Calgary from California. I also bought a Twin Reverb amp, a serious beast of an amp which will rattle the windows. That should arrive a bit sooner, I also rented my self a little Mexican tele to mess around with - here it is after some serious practise. Man i love the guitar - why didn't I start earlier?

October 3rd

11pm: One problem with a dry spell is the loss of humidity at this altitude, to keep my guitars from crumbling to dust I have to whack the humidifier to its highest level in my little basement studio/office.

August 31st

10pm: Well with Nicky still away, once the kids are in bed I get the whole evening to myself - this means lots of guitar practise. I have been putting in some hours on the lap steel - which is hard work but fun.

August 1st

11pm: I forgot to take any photos today until late on, i had been practising my guitar so threw together this little shot. Some days are just not meant for fancy photography.

July 31st

11pm: A neat little bit of kit for my I-pad arrived today - plug this into the amp & you have a portable electronic set of pedals & effects. Looking forward to having a play around.

July 11th

11pm: Just finished practising on my new lap steel, kind of hard getting used to the picks required to play the instrument properly & I am still awaiting a proper bar. The sounds you can get out of it are pretty sweet even now - must practise more. Was also the World Cup Final today, was pleased with the Spanish win & actually enjoyed what many said was a dour, spiteful final. I thought it was rather absorbing & could have swung either way.

June 30th

10pm: I picked up a Lap Steel at the local guitar store today, I have been meaning to get one of these for ages. No idea how to play it, but it sure sounds cool - I have it on approval for a few days to decide if i want to buy it...........

April 25th

10.45pm: I have clocked up a decent amount of guitar practise today, thanks to the cold weather & my new Marshall amp. Earlier got out on the bike for an hour, really need to ramp up the intensity now with exactly 2 months until the big ride. A nice family day though all in all, lots of cooking, messing around with the kids & generally just pottering!

April 6th

10pm: After my guitar lesson today, I decided to try out a Taylor guitar - before I spend $2.5k on one, i need to know it suits my guitar playing needs. Needless to say, it's a beautiful instrument - really easy to play & it sounds great, although not enough bass for my liking - i think I'll try out some more before purchasing. Spent the afternoon with George & Lesley making sausages!!

March 30th

11pm: So it was another cold one today, and a long day as well - rounded off by boot camp & a solid bit of guitar practise. I am slowly getting better, but man! do you need to practise a lot & often - i had a break of a few months without really picking the instrument up & I have suffered for that. Probably taken me a solid 4 weeks to get back to where I was & a couple of lessons as well....memo to self; don't do that again!!

January 4th

Acoustic 12 string which I am slowly learning to play; plans were to photograph our weekly indoor football session - but only 6 people turned up & it didn't really happen. Trying to find something interesting to shoot today was a challenge as it was the first day back at work - so with just a little time left I turned to my trusty guitars.
