3pm. Its turned a bit cold & the snow is back, not much but enough toreally underline the advent of winter & the end of the gardening season.

September 21st

8am: Ah yes! My prediction from yesterday was true - a pretty decent snowfall overnight, not too cold though so it probably won't hang around. The joys of scraping, defrosting & warming up the cars beckon!

September 20th

2pm: The cold weather continues, I think we've got some snow on the way judging by the low temperatures & the suffocating clouds wreathing the valley (here obscuring the East End of Rundle).

September 16th

8pm: Back from the warmth of Vancouver to snow in Canmore. Just to compound a miserable, tepid summer we are now getting snow here already. I suspect any remaining plant life in my back garden is on its last legs by now!

September 5th

7pm: Yesterday's rain continued overnight & as the temperature dropped, the snow settled on the mountains opposite us in the valley. Pretty? - undoubtedly. Welcome in the first week of September? - no!

August 29th

7pm: Well this is the sum total of ripe tomatilloes so far - a testament to our crappy, cold summer! Not sure what to do with it, there are plenty of others on the bushes, but they aren't anywhere near as ripe or ready to pick as this little beauty - here's hoping for an Indian summer.

August 14th

3pm: Nye Beach, Newport, Oregon Today started out bright & clear but the sea mist lurking offshore, slowly closed us in. After visiting the Newport farmer's market & then buying some freshly caught Tuna, we headed for the beach. Charlie couldn't wait, he just ran for the sea......

August 6th

7pm: Rain again, another wet day in this horrible summer. Cannot wait to head south for warmer climes tomorrow. Yes, holiday time as of 8am tomorrow morning as we drive down to Oregon. I hope it's going to be a LOT warmer & drier than soggy, cold Canmore.

11pm: June 16th & it's 4° outside & dropping. Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish!!! Only the World Cup to keep us going through the second coming of winter!!

9.30pm: The end of another cold, wet training session. The season is underway & it feels like England in January!

May 29th

8pm: Finally the snow clouds have lifted a little on what was a cold Saturday afternoon. What to do when it's like this, no biking, no gardening, not much really - just an indoors kind of day. Hope it warms up a little for the start of the Bow Valley Soccer League tomorrow.

May 28th

9.30am: Last night's cold, damp football training session heralded the onset of snow. SNOW! It's the end of May for god's sake.....so here I am snapping a bunch of frozen cows in a field just south of Cochrane, the snow clouds still looming in the background. When will this late winter ever end......

May 27th

10pm: I'm sorry to say this week has been pretty uninspiring on the photo front. As you can tell from my muddy football boots the weather has been crap & taking photos a chore rather than a pleasure. Still football training was fun, hard work in the cold & wet, but energising fun. The team is coming together well, think we will compete this year.

May 21st

11pm: Hah! The worst photo of the year - no doubt!!! I had spent the day in Calgary for work, interviewing some prospective employees. Then rushed home to have sushi with the kids & nearly forgot my daily photo - so I decided to capture my nightly ritual of covering the tomatos & tomatillos with plastic, fleece & tarpaulin in a vain effort to stop them from freezing. It's a bank holiday weekend, it's predictably freezing, we had to turn the central heating back on - oh man!

May 4th

6.15pm: First Minor Soccer session & Tabby is playing yet again for the Squirrels - they hammered the poor old Marmots 4-0 in the opening game. Tabby definitely stronger & with more technique this season, although the attention span of a goldfish & like the rest of the kids suffering in the sub-zero temperatures. We had our first official training session later that evening, I think I have contracted frostbite - it was appalling weather - not very enjoyable to be honest but we had an incredible turnout of players - nationalities included Chilean, Brazilian, Japanese, Czech, German, Polish, Dutch, Jamaican, Scottish, English & the odd Canadian.

April 28th

8.30pm: I stopped in the swirling snowstorm at the PetroCanada service station near Cochrane, the weather has been appalling all day - heavy snow, 90mph winds, generally miserable. I don't want to turn this into a weather blog, but we get such extremes here. Just a week before I was playing football in balmy conditions & now this. I had been for dinner in Calgary with a colleague over from Toronto - he was lucky (in a sense) to get to Calgary given the hurricane force winds that all but closed down the airport.

April 12th

5pm: One of those cold, blowy days that occasionally blight us here in the Bow Valley, hard to take photos when visibility is so low & the worlds seems to be harshly desaturated. Here is a shot of one such snow cloud shrouding the tip of Ha Ling Peak on a cold Monday afternoon. Even the world's greatest photographer may struggle with this flat light & poor viso.

March 30th

11pm: So it was another cold one today, and a long day as well - rounded off by boot camp & a solid bit of guitar practise. I am slowly getting better, but man! do you need to practise a lot & often - i had a break of a few months without really picking the instrument up & I have suffered for that. Probably taken me a solid 4 weeks to get back to where I was & a couple of lessons as well....memo to self; don't do that again!!
